ABOUT ABOUT

DAVID: ORIGINS OF A KING
An Original Musical

(ENGLISH VERSION)

Few soap operas depict family dramas as rife with envy, favoritism, sibling rivalry and sexual misconduct as the Bible: Think Isaac and Rebecca playing favorites over Jacob and Esau; Joseph and his brothers; Cain and Abel; Lot’s incest…

But in that welter of conflict, King David’s lousy childhood has been largely ignored…until now.

A team of prominent Israeli creatives are bringing to life the story of David’s youth - tarred as a bastard, an outcast in his own family, “the taunt of drunkards,” as he described himself in Psalms. As they prepare their musical production for Broadway, they’re bringing their tale of young David, trapped between a father who zealously guarded his reputation as the sage head of the supreme religious court of ancient Israel, and a mother devoted to her husband, to the Streicker Center to reveal the early years of the warrior King who turned Jerusalem from a small Canaanite city-state in decline into the capital of a united Jewish kingdom.
