Judy Collins Sings Hallelujah . . . to Leonard Cohen

ABOUT ABOUT

In 1966, an obscure Canadian poet reached out to folk singer Judy Collins, hoping she might be interested in some songs he’d written.  "I can't sing and I can't play the guitar,” he admitted. “I don't know if this is a song.”

Then he sang Suzanne, which Collins recorded within weeks.

Thus began the extraordinary collaboration between Leonard Cohen and Judy Collins, the woman who introduced the ethereal mysticism of Cohen’s songs to the world and, a year later, convinced a reluctant Cohen to perform his music himself.

The Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center is proud to welcome Judy Collins to share her recollections of the poet of brokenness and to perform some of the music that they sang together for so long.

Grammy-winning Judy Collins will by joined by singer-songwriter Ari Hest.

Sponsored by John H. Streicker and the Temple Emanu-El Streicker Center.
